gathering & sorting old work is like getting lost in an old journal – except that i never actually read old journals. both paint and writing are journaling, of course, but these seem clear as photographs – transparent as x-rays – the line qualities, structure and color saying so much more than any text ever can.
most paintings are on cigar box parts: the hinged ones that yield a shallow and a deeper piece. Letters are either scratched in or painted… and then there was that ill-advised romance with stamps ;-> I still love Madness because i cared so much and stayed so long:
Safety for what it says, for what I want women to find there,
and Attitude because that is still what I aspire to.
